Egg donation treatment

It is the most effective treatment between all the assisted reproductive techniques

Egg donation is the treatment in which a woman who wishes to become pregnant uses donor eggs. There are different reasons for having to use donor eggs, such as the patient’s age, the quality of the eggs obtained in previous treatments, the low ovarian response of the woman when undergoing ovarian stimulation, genetic alterations, among others.

This treatment consists of carrying out an in vitro fertilization with eggs from a donor and sperm from the couple or from a donor, according to the case, transferring the embryo to the recipient woman.

Egg donation in Spain is totally anonymous. This means that neither the woman who donates her eggs will know the identity of the woman who receives them and vice versa. Even so, in the event of illness or medical need, the donor can be located for tests or studies. Furthermore, Fertility Benidorm keeps samples of all its donors for a period of 25 years.

Which tests does the donor undergo?

Donors are screened and tested very strictly. A basic health study is carried out, with general analyses; serological tests to rule out infectious diseases (HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C); a karyotype to ensure that there are no chromosomal abnormalities; and a genetic study of carriers of recessive diseases.

At Fertility Benidorm we care about the health and well-being of our donors, which is why we also carry out the necessary ultrasound scans, cultures and support from our psychologist.

How the donor is selected?

The donor is selected based on the characteristics of the patients. Physical characteristics are taken under consideration, such as height, weight, eye colour, hair colour, skin colour, blood group and general appearance.

We perform the selection before starting the treatment.

In addition, we have the option, highly recommended, to carry out the study of genetic compatibility or matching to prevent the transmission of important diseases to the descendant.

How treatment technique;egg donation is performed?

Both the donor and the recipient will receive a coordinated treatment.

The donor will receive an ovarian stimulation treatment of approximately 10 days in order to obtain the necessary eggs. Meanwhile, the recipient will receive a treatment that consists of preparing the uterus to receive the embryo or embryos in the best conditions.

After stimulating the donor, the eggs are extracted and fertilized on the same day, either with the partner’s sperm or with donor sperm, according to the case.

After a few days in culture, the embryos are classified according to their quality and one or two are transferred into the uterus.

Embryos of good quality that have not been transferred will be vitrified (frozen) in liquid nitrogen for future use.

In addition to serving the local population, Fertility Benidorm is an international clinic that works with patients from outside our city, from other countries in Europe and other continents.

For this reason, during the first appointment we will create the medical record and perform an ultrasound. Furthermore, we will try to do everything possible so that our patients can carry out the indicated medical tests in the most comfortable way and in the shortest time possible. We recommend that you bring all the information available to our fertility clinic, as it may be useful to us.

If you are travelling to Alicante airport to visit our clinic, we will arrange for you to be collected and taken to the clinic. Please contact us and our team will explain to you the conditions of this service that we offer to our clients.
